Welcome to a beautiful wedding day on Lopez Island, accessible only via boat, small plane, or ferry. After a 45 min ferry ride from Anacortes, Washington, I stepped into a world that feels like home to me. Often called the "friendly" isle because everyone will wave regardless of if they know you yet or not. Chances are, you'll meet.
Welcome to Lopez Island, Washington. A beautiful, quaint island in the center of the San Juan Island Archipelago, and the perfect place for a summer wedding in Washington.
Enter Meghan and Christian, a couple melded together throughout years spent together. Now they reside on Bainbridge Island in a tiny home built together. I have known Meghan for several years through working together at the same kayak guiding company (check out San Juan Outfitters; they're awesome) on San Juan Island. Meghan and Christian have always been one of those couples that attract and create comfortable, supportive community.
Their Lopez island wedding was no exception to that. Arriving with the sunrise on the ferry, I walked into the coffee shop in Lopez Village only to be treated to coffee by Meghan's family who arrived around the same time I had. Then, to the house where the pair was finishing the writing of their vows.
We all ate breakfast and enjoyed the celebration of the day. Each moment was one of joy and celebration, with nary stress or frustration clouding the day.
Meghan and Christian's first look was beautiful, watched at a distance by the community who has seen them grow together throughout the years. Family photos was a celebration of laughs and memories shared of loved ones near, and loved ones unable to be there on this day, but living on in the joyous memory of their presence.
Then, the ceremony out in a field in the middle of the island. Vows were exchanged, and the union blessed and supported by loved ones. Then, the bike processional to the reception hall 2 miles away began.
The rest of the night was a continued celebration of love in so many forms, lead by the union of Meghan and Christian, married on the beautiful Lopez Island.
Thank you for the honour of documenting your community and love.
